The COVID-19 variant has kept us apart for a while. I missed you all! Let’s catch up!

Being with our children all day every day tells us a lot about them. So, what would you say if you were to write a before-and-after COVID statement about your children? Did they share something new with you?

COVID has changed the trajectory of our parenting. We were given the opportunity to listen to what our children had to say all day long. And some of us learned that they are real people with ideas and plans for their life.

A mom’s conversation with her eight-year-old son:

Ken: Mom, I am ready to go back to school!

Mom: Ken, when school was open, you said that you were tired of school.

Ken: I know but I miss my friends. I like that part of going to school. Besides, I already learned enough in school to do what I want to do with my life.

Mom: And what may I ask, are you going to do without an education?

Ken: Mom, you know that I already know all about animals and all, and what I don’t know, I can Google it. I learned a lot from those two veterinarian doctors. I learned how to operate on animals from watching them on TV.

Mom: I am glad that you are learning a lot from technology, and I like your enthusiasm. Your dad and I are proud of you. I do understand what you are saying, but your dad and I need to talk with you when he gets home.

Ken: OK, Mom.

We might see our child’s ideas and plans as cute little sayings, but let’s give them a little more credit and acknowledgment! Where did our children get those ideas and thoughts from?

Thought for today: How will your child’s present mindset direct their paths? I invite you to read a poem I wrote:
“The Quiet Child.”
